| | How Do I Install Evo VII Tail Lamps? You'll need flat-headed and Phillips screwdriver, something small to poke with, and some needle-nose pliers. Installation take about 30 minutes.
Start by pulling removing the carpet and board from the floor of the trunk. Then pop loose the fasteners on the outside edges of the inside center trim panel (faces the back bumper). You can pop them loose by putting your hand up under the trim panel and pulling firmly. They may look like they're almost going to break before the pop loose.
Next, undo the fasteners for the fuzzy side panels behind the tail lamps. There are two push-button fasteners and one screw-type (See Photo 1). The screw type just unthreads using your fingers. For the others, gently push the center in with the tip of a pen or something. Be gentle! If you push too far, you'll have to break the fastener to remove it. The center goes in about 2mm, and then the fastener easily slips out using your fingers.
The fabric-covered plastic liner hooks onto that center trim panel -- see Photo 2. You'll have to pull out the top of the liner, then pull it down to un-hook it from the center plastic piece. Once it's unhooked, fold the whole thing forward to reveal the tail lamps.
The lamps attach to the car by two Phillips head screws and two push-in stud clip fasteners (See Photo 3). Undo the screws, then get to work on the stud clips. We were able to undo the center stud clip by gently squeezing it with needle-nose pliers. The outer one is more stubborn, and we had to remove the soft clear plastic condom that's around it before it would release. It's okay to destroy the fastener because you get more with the tail lamps.
Once the lights are released, simply unplug the wiring harness (push the tab and pull the plug free), plug it into the new lamps, and reverse the removal process to install the new lamps. Use your new stud clip on the outer corner -- it's the pale yellow plastic one.
