How Do I Install Kartboy Shifter Bushing Set?

Installation is pretty easy on this great shifter improvement item. Assembly assumes that you have access to the shifter linkage at the transmission. For access you may need to remove the battery and intake pipe (or have very long and flexible monkey arms).

Tools you will need for the install include: A hand with at least 3 working fingers, a fairly long flat blade screwdriver, 1 working eye, a 1600watt microwave, and a jar of peanuts.

Please read all instructions and notes prior to starting this process.

Step 1: Removing right rear taillight assembly.
Doing this will aid in the installation process!

Step 2:Removing stock insert from the small ended cable.
To remove the insert from the smaller end cable you will need to first remove the cotter pin that keeps the cable from coming off the pin in the tranny. Once you have the cotter pin removed take off the washer that is on the top and re-install the cotter pin. Re-install the pin?!?! Yes, re-install the pin. Now, hopefully the shifter cable is still installed just lacking the washer on top. Now reach down with your 3 working fingers and try to pull the shifter cable off. Due to the cotter pin still being installed it will resist you a bit, but a good solid tug will result in the cable coming off and leaving the rubber insert behind. Now go and remove the cotter pin again and take off the rubber bushing.

Step 3: Removing stock insert from the large ended cable.
This is a pretty easy one too. Take the large flat bladed screwstick and simply pry off the large ended cable. The cotter pin here also will keep the rubber in place allowing a quick and painless removal. If you are having any trouble try working it off in 2 different spots. Don't force it and break anything cause then you will be have to yell at yourself and that isn't in the instructions. Once it pops free remove the cotter pin and the stock rubber bushing (don't eat it).

Step 4: Installing the Kartboy inserts
This step is probably the hardest as you need to figure out which inserts go on which cable. Start out by matching up the inserts of the same size. It may take up to 3 matching attempts to get the first pair together but be patient and the rest will fall into place. Once you have them matched up insert them in the cable ends that look like they will fit into without much trouble.

Step 6: Putting it back together.
Now that you've gotten this far reward yourself with a peanut from the jar. Put the now green glowing cable ends back on their respective transmission pin. Now put the washers back on and then the cotter pins to keep the washers from falling into the depths of the engine bay.

Step 7: Check movement.
Go sit in the car and move the shifter around like you are driving away from a crime scene. You should notice a reduction in the play in the front and back throws of the shifter. If anything is binding check at the cable ends to make sure you didn't leave your hand or other items in the way of proper movement.

NOTES: Some steps and items listed may not be needed for your application or are needed only for future upgrades.
