| | TurboXS Lancer Evolution UTEC Subaru WRX owners have been enjoying this little gem for a couple of years. Now we Lancer Evolution owners can also reap the benefits of the User-Tuneable Engine Computer (UTEC). The Evo UTEC plugs directly into the wiring harness of your Lancer Evo, and has user-adjustable fuel, timing, and boost maps, so you can infinitely adjust the performance parameters of your Evo, without ever having to send in your ECU for re-programming.
Programming is accomplished by any PC, or even with a PDA running terminal software. You can create up to four separate programs, plus "stock" mode, that are selectable on the fly. (No need to get out the laptop to switch from your pump gas program to your race gas program, for example.) Please note: You MUST have a PC or palmtop with a terminal program to make any adjustments to the UTEC. The interface is RS-232, but a USB-to-RS-232 cable will also work, as will a Palm-to-RS-232 cable.
The UTEC's built-in software means there's nothing to install on your PC -- the software is inside the UTEC. That means no disks to keep track of, no annoying "dongle" hardware keys, and no worries about PC compatibility.
The UTEC's ability to fine-tune the car blows away any device anywhere near its price range. You can alter fuel, timing and boost parameters every 250 rpms, over ten "load sites." You can program for larger injectors, you can advance or retard spark timing, you can adjust for manifold pressure, you can set boost according to throttle position and rpm...these are just some of the incredible features.
The UTEC also boasts a slew of safety features to help keep you out of trouble. There's automatic timing reduction when knock is detected. (The knock detection parameters are adjustable, of course!) There's a low-boost control to prevent overboost at part-throttle. Factory cold-start and warm-start routines are also retained, along with intake temperature compensation and AC compensation.
The UTEC comes pre-programmed with a light-mods tuning map, so you are ready to drive right out of the box. Since your modifications will probably differ some from the default map, you'll want to tune the device to best match your particular mods list. Then down the road, if you change fuel injectors, intercooler, turbo, exhaust, or other significant performance upgrades, you can quickly re-tune the UTEC to meet the demands of your new modifications.
You can easily download or upload maps, too, so you can share parameters with friends, retrieve the latest maps (always free, of course) from TurboXS or from the Mach V message forums.
The UTEC's data logging features allow you to record your engine's ECU inputs so you can more carefully analyze its performance, without having to watch six gauges while driving. It also can communicate with the TurboXS Tuner for even greater data logging power.
The UTEC is easily installed in under a half-hour, with no cutting or soldering required. It plugs into the factory ECU harness, so it can just as easily be removed to return the car to stock condition. The auxiliary boost controller, which is required, can be installed within 15 minutes.
The UTEC firmware is upgradeable, so if/when future features are added, you can simply download the updates to your UTEC.
How well does it work? You can easily achieve gains of 20-30 horsepower -- at the wheels-- on an otherwise stock Evo. You can't find a better horsepower/dollar buy! And the power increases only go up as you add other performance parts.
The Evo UTEC only works on the Lancer Evo. It will not work on any other car. It will work on all U.S. Lancer Evolution models; it MAY work on Lancers from other markets, but we arent' sure yet.
Of course, please remember: You can destroy your motor using this tool. Fuel and timing alterations, done improperly, can lead to extremely damaging detonation, which can destroy pistons, valves, and rings. Use this product at your own risk!
It is highly recommended that you have an aftermarket EGT gauge installed when using the UTEC. And as mentioned above, some kind of computer or terminal emulation program is required to use the UTEC.
UTEC kit includes the UTEC with plug-and-play ECU wiring harness, an auxiliary boost controller, a protective cover, and serial cable.

 | Remote Map Selector for UTEC This remote switch allows you to switch UTEC programs on the fly. Switch with the touch of a button from street program, to race program, to valet mode, to security mode, all without leaving the driver's seat. (The UTEC has up to five different maps, plus valet and security modes.) Comes mounted to a factory-looking switch blank; since there are no spare swtich spaces on the Evo dash, you'll have to custom-mount it. We suggest the change pocket to the left of the steering wheel.
